Lets play pretend for just a minute! Imagine one day you are just chillin at your house checking your facebook or folding some laundry. All of a sudden there is an angel standing in front of you! You are totally shocked, where did he come from? I havent even put my makeup on yet! Then he says “Good morning! The Lord is with you and you are blessed among women! Also, surprise!!, you are about to become pregnant and your baby is going to be King of the world!” What is your reaction? Please tell me in the comments because I’d love to know! I think I’d totally pass out!
Our lesson today comes from:
“In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came to her and said, “Rejoice, favored woman! The Lord is with you.” But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. Then the angel told her: Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end. Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not been intimate with a man? ” The angel replied to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. And consider your relative Elizabeth — even she has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called childless. For nothing will be impossible with God.” “I am the Lord’s slave,” said Mary. “May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.”
What amazes me about Mary in this story is her reaction in verse 38 “I am the Lord’s slave,” said Mary. “May it be done to me according to your word.” Mary gives us a beautiful example of submission to God’s will above our own. I am sure Mary had dreams of marrying Joseph and one day giving birth to his child but God had a different plan for Mary, one greater than she ever could have imagined. God used her to bring the Savior of the world into the world! What greater honor could there be for a woman! God’s plan for our lives is always better than our plan! God knows what your future holds and He knows the desires of your heart!
Luke 1:45 says “She who has believed is blessed because what was spoken to her by the Lord will be fulfilled! ” Do you believe that God’s promises will be fulfilled? If only we would have faith like Mary, believing all of His promises and trusting in God’s will. What would our lives look like? What would this world look like?
My challenge for you today is to ask God to give you faith like Mary, to increase your belief in His promises and to walk in His will! How cool would it be to hear these words spoken to you “Rejoice, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”Luke 1:28 .
